Residents have been queuing at Deans Garden Centre, Seamer Road, Irton Garden Centre and Burniston Garden Centre, Coastal Road, to buy plants, hanging baskets, compost, lawn feed and other items.

The centres opened their doors on Wednesday as the Government eased the lockdown rules brought in to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Centres across the country have brought in social distancing and other safety measures.
