A HOST of leading Gospel singers including Manfred Mann's Paul Jones and his wife Fiona Hendley Jones will be taking part in the only event of its kind in England in Whitby next weekend.
The Whitby Gospel Music Convention runs from 16 to 18 May and was set up by Paul Wheater and his late wife Jill, from Sleights, in 2000.
The event at Whitby Pavilion has become ever more successful with each passing year and this year's event is the first one since Jill died last October.
The administrative work of the convention has now been taken over by their daughter Lucy and this year the small team which run the event have all worked especially hard to ensure the continued success of the weekend.
Artistes appearing include a mixture of old favourites and some new faces including Ministry In Song from Scotland and Walter Stevenson, who spends much of his time in prison ministry.
Country music star George Hamilton IV will, as usual, be acting as compere as well as giving a special presentation on Sunday afternoon – Looking back to Easter.
Paul Jones, who was lead singer with the hugely successful Manfred Mann, will be appearing on the Saturday afternoon with his wife Fiona Hendley Jones, an accomplished actress and singer.
Fiona has worked in all areas of showbusiness from her acclaimed TV series Widows, for which she won Personality of the Year Award, to leading roles at the Royal National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company and in the West End.
Convention organiser Paul Wheater will also be singing during this afternoon session with his special musical testimony – Call on Him.
Britain's most successful Gospel trio, The Gospel Heirs, will be making their final appearance at Whitby as part of their farewell tour.
Over the past 15 years they have been hugely popular and were recently awarded a gold record for sales of the album Gospel Heirs Gold
Also performing are many of the event's most well-loved singers and the Convention song leader and one of the Convention team members, Fred Page and his band.
