A GIFTED singer, songwriter, musician and performer, whose career in music stretches back almost 20 years, is to play an intimate gig at Whitby Coliseum on Friday.
Martin Stephenson and the Daintees illuminated the British music scene 20 years ago.
Since then, he has pursued a solo career, regularly releasing albums and ploughing a path through club venues throughout the UK and abroad and is now located in Northern Scotland.
With a recent Daintees album released and a huge grassroots following, Martin's stage persona blended with his beautiful songs, guitar playing and fine voice is still causing a gentle stir within the UK music scene.
His music and guitar style is an eclectic mixture, displaying influences as wide-ranging as Doc Watson, Scott Joplin, Merle Travis and guitar ace, Roy Buchanan.
He has toured with artists ranging from Janis Ian, John Martyn and Bert Jansch to Hothouse Flowers and Melissa Etheridge.
Having played at The Compass Club in 2005 Martin was keen to return to Whitby and Musicport were keen to get him back according to organiser Jim McLaughlin.
He said: "I first saw Martin and his band busking in a record shop in Nottingham 20-plus years ago. They were astonishing then and I've remained a fan ever since.
"Martin will, I know, deliver a guaranteed night to remember as he did previously when he played The Compass Club."
The gig begins at 8pm although doors open at 7.30pm.
Tickets are priced £9/£7 concessions. For more information call (01947) 605089 or visit www.whitbymusicport.com
