EXPERIENCE all the magic and high energy of a performance from a live African band at Whitby Coliseum on Thursday 26 June.
Imbongi are fronted by Zimbabwe's premier performance poet Albert Nyathi and also features South Africa's Prince of Maskanda guitar, Maqhinga Radebe of Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
Explosive, dynamic and visually stunning, Imbongi are a high-energy fusion of words, song, music and dance.
On-stage they are a vibrant blend of traditional, blues, jazz and contemporary african music.
The band consists of eight multi-talented male and female singers, musicians and dancers who collaborate with keyboards, guitars and drums and the poignant poetry of Nyathi to provide highly charged performance of African music at its finest.
Organiser of the Compass Club gig, Jim McLaughlin said: "As temperature-raisers they are nothing short of spectacular.
"If you like your African music from the heart, reaching into the depths of your very soul then Imbongi are the band for you.
"A celebration of sound, colour and dare we say poetry in motion – and don't forget your dancing shoes or just sit back and enjoy."
Tickets to see Albert Nyathi and Imbongi featuring Maqhinga Radebe cost £10 adults/£8 concessions and doors open at 8pm.
