WHITBY theatre company teacher has directed her way to becoming a regional representative.

Rosalie Newlyn, of Whitby Area Musical Theatre Company (WAMTC) was nominated, before being invested as regional representative for the North East region of the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA).

The areas Rosalie, who is known as Rosie, will be covering include Whitby, Scarborough, Pickering and Malton, where she will be responsible for promoting NODA services to any dramatic and operatic societies as well as attending performances at the request of societies to review them for the NODA section of the national publication, Amateur Stage.

Rosie has a wealth of experience having danced under Barbara Benson for 25 years, obtaining her teaching qualifications in ballet and tap.

She started with Whitby Amateur Operatic Society, now WAMTC, in 1993 as a chorus member and has taken principal roles for the company, as well as having playing in a number of productions for Whitby Amateur Dramatic Society.

Since focusing her attention on directing, Rosie has been instrumental in developing the youth section of WAMTC and has directed The Wizard of Oz and Seusscial the Musical for the Company.

She is currently directing Rodgers & Hammerstein’s A Grand Night for Singing for WAMTC which will be held at Whitby Pavilion Theatre from 12 to 14 May at 7.30pm.

Tickets are priced £6 throughout the theatre so it is recommended to book in advance.

The company have a booking desk at Whitby Library between 10am and 2pm now until 14 May every day except Sunday.
