the hilarious story of five women who inherit equal shares in a dilapidated theatre and plan to bring it back to life again is the subject of a new production coming to Whitby Pavilion Theatre later this month.
In Curtain Up! performed by Whitby Amateur Dramatic Society (WADS) they try various fund-raising schemes but their most ambitious is to hold a concert featuring local talent and a world-famous star who agrees to appear for no fee.
But their plans go awry and it’s a race to keep their audience from guessing the truth of the matter.
This show marks the first time in many years that WADS has added a fourth performance by showing on Sunday also.
Audiences can expect a lot of fun from this show, a spot of keep fit, eyes down for bingo and a huge international singer star.
The show is being directed by Chris Wales who said he fell in love with the script the moment he finished reading it.
He said: “I just knew that the Whitby audiences would love the homour and the visual comedy that runs alongside it. The cast and I are having a lot of fun putting this together.”
The comedy by Peter Quilter is showing on Saturday 28, Sunday 29, Monday 30 and Tuesday 31 May at 7.30pm.
Tickets are priced £6, £5 concessions and can be purchased from Whitby Pavilion Complex, Whitby Tourist Centre or by calling (01947) 604855.
