POP star Olly Murs is to make a welcome return to Scarborough’s open air theatre this summer.
The triple-platinum selling star first appeared at the outdoor venue last year and enjoyed the Scarborough experience so much he vowed to return.
That promise has been kept and his fans will be able to see the star perform on Thursday 6 June, after the end of his huge 2013 UK arena tour and before he goes on to support Robbie Williams as special guest on his European Stadium tour.
In just three years, Olly has crafted three albums, which have produced four number one singles including the platinum-selling Dance With Me Tonight and latest number one smash hit Troublemaker ft. Flo Rida, and a further three top 20 hits.
His first album Olly Murs released in 2010 has gone double-platinum and second album In Case You Didn’t Know released the following year has gone triple-platinum.
Along with Ed Sheeran and Example, Olly is the only recent male solo star with a sell-out headline arena tour to his name, as well as becoming a fixture on the main stage of many festivals.
His new album Right Place Right Time, which has achieved double-platinum status, shot to the top of the albums chart immediately on release – giving Olly the biggest week one sales by a male artist in 2012.
He also managed the rare feat of being top of the albums and singles chart simultaneously when Troublemaker hit the top spot for a second week.
Tickets for Olly Murs, priced £35 will go on sale in person at The Sands offices, Peasholm Gap, North Bay, Scarborough, from 8am on Saturday 16 February giving local residents the chance to buy tickets before general sale release at 10am. They will also be on sale at Whitby Tourist Information Centre.
Olly Murs is the sixth act to be announced for this summer’s line up at Scarborough Open Air Theatre following recent announcements of The Wanted (14 June), Happy Mondays (22 June), Leona Lewis (12 July), Status Quo (27 July) and McFly (30 August).
