Oakridge Primary school in Hinderwell recently participated in an African music and dance workshop.
The whole school was shown how to use African drums by Hilaire Agnama from the Tees Oneworld Centre, who also treated them to traditional African singing by both himself and through videos of other traditional singers. Many of the pupils also attempted some traditional African dancing taught to them by Hilaire. This all comes as part of the culmination of an African project the school was undertaking and teachers thought the workshops would provide the excellent way to end all the hard work done by the pupils through first hand experience.
The morning was a big success with pupils of all ages demonstrating their ability to learn traditional instruments which they normally wouldn’t encounter in any other circumstance.
