The act that has got standing ovations at the last four Musicport Festivals return to Whitby’s Resolution Hotel Vault Bar on Sunday to officially launch this year’s festival.
With free entrance and lots of surprises in store, the session should prove a great curtain-raiser to the autumn event which returns to its home at Whitby Pavilion, from 5 to 7 October, after four years in Bridlington.
The Hut People are East Yorkshire-based duo Sam and Gary who take the audience on a global journey with their accordion and percussion-based music that rarely fails to astonish in its inventiveness and the engaging manner in which it is presented.
Gary was long-time percussionist with The Beautiful South and was also a member of Nina Simone’s touring band.
Sam was formerly a Radio 2 Young Folk Musician Of The Year award winner.
Singers and musicians from the floor are welcome to perform as well (time allowing) so feel free to bring your voice/instrument and contribute.
The session is a festival fund-raiser so expect raffles and competitions. Prizes and donations will be welcome.
For floor performers there’ll be a festival slot up for grabs for the act that gets the best audience reaction.
The gig is on from 5pm to 8pm.
