A DATE has been set for this year’s Peasholm Party in the Park.
The annual event, which is now in its fifth year and is attended by many people from Whitby and district, will take place on Sunday 5 June between noon and 4pm.
It will feature The Shadows cover band, who will be performing in the bandstand during the afternoon, and representatives from Ryedale Folk Museum will be giving demonstrations of country crafts.
There will be lots of stalls including a raffle, tombola and cake stall. Tarot card reader Jean North will also be at the event.
The star raffle prize will be a holiday, either at the The Sands in Scarborough or the Algarve, donated by Terry Sayers.
Organiser Christine Mark said: “It has become a very popular thing - people are very keen to put it in their diaries and I get emails asking when the party will be on.
“We always get lots of lovely feedback about the event and people also say how much nicer the park is now than when they used to come years ago. “Everyone has been very complimentary, which is great.”
She added that the family friendly event is open to all and is normally attended by a mixture of locals and holidaymakers.
It will follow on from a recent Easter party, which was organised by Friends group committee member Linda Harper.
Ms Mark said: “Linda has been doing a lot of work with schools and has been organising competitions linked in to the Party in the Park.”
It is hoped that the Easter party will now become an annual event and there are also plans for a family event in the autumn.
The Friends group have already been planning a big party for summer 2012 to celebrate the centenary of Peasholm Park.
Ms Mark said: “It’s going to be a massive celebration and we’ve been planning it for a few months now.
“We’re hoping lots of people will get involved.”
