A CHOIR will be forced to leave the stage for good if it can’t recruit more members.

The Saturday Choir which is part of Whitby Music Centre has until February half term to increase its numbers or funding will be cut.

It has been going for four years but there are now only eight regular members.

Bob Butterfield from Whitby Music Centre said: “The bands and the orchestra come in early to sing with the choir but at 10am go to their own rehearsal and when we do concerts the others from the band and orchestra join in but in reality there is only about eight.

“It is funded by North Yorkshire County Council and the rules say that you need at least 15 so that creates a problem.

“They have asked us to get at least five or more, I would like 50 more. Up until recently we have been funding ourselves but because of a legal technicality we can’t do that anymore.”
