Families in Whitby made the most of what is on their doorstep when they enjoyed traditional seaside fun as part of National Playday on the beach.

The campaign, run by Yorkshire Coast Homes, actively promotes children’s health, well-being and happiness by helping to ensure that they are given the time, freedom and space to enjoy outdoor play.

The event, on Whitby’s West Cliff beach, included a fun-packed schedule of entertainment and activities with seaside-themed face painting, pirate hat making, soccer games and a fabulous sandcastle competition.

Claire Simpson, Yorkshire Coast Homes Community Involvement Officer said: “We were really excited to hold this National Playday event in Whitby. We think it’s very important that children get to play and to interact with other children, and we are always happy to contribute to any activities that encourage families to have fun together.

“The weather was kind to us and we were able to provide a real fun day on the beach for both local and visiting families”.
