WHITBY’S only entrant into this year’s Miss Scarborough contest did the town proud when she finished runner-up.

Laura Stone, from Iburndale, impressed the judges at the prestigious event on Sunday night as she competed against 13 other finalists at the newly re-opened Spa in Scarborough.

But she was pipped to the post by Leanne Wilford from Malton.

There were three rounds starting with beachwear followed by an eco-round where the contestants wear something they have made from recycled material.

The final round was called Miss Bond which Laura particularly enjoyed as it was a chance to glam-up.

Laura (21) was entered by her fiancee’s mum and was backed by Kristy’s Beauty Salon in Flowergate and the River Gardens cafe in Briggswath where Laura works.

After the weekend’s events Laura told the Whitby Gazette: “It was really good fun.

“It was a jam-packed day and it absolutely flew, it felt like it was only two minutes long.

“I couldn’t believe it, I was the last one called out for the final five and my heart was racing.

“Thank you to all of my family that came to support me, they were cheering all night long.

“I got a tiara, a photo shoot and a bouquet of flowers.”

She added: “If Miss Scarborough can’t do anything I have to go along, so I guess I’m deputy Miss Scarborough.”
