A LOCAL history group has organised a series of lectures, the first of which takes place this Friday (20 May).
The Jet Coast Development Trust (JCDT) has invited railway expert Dr Michael Williams to give a chat on the Whitby, Redcar and Middlesbrough Railway.
Dr Williams has compiled a large amount of research into the historic line and his talk will include a short clip of a steam train journey from Whitby to Loftus.
The talk will begin at 7pm and is being held at Hinderwell Village Hall.
JCDT is run by a group of local volunteers, based in the Gateway Centre on Staithes Car Park.
They are currently managing a grant-funded local history project, called Mulgrave Community Research Project, that is funded by LEADER and Your Heritage Lottery.
The project is now in it’s second year and volunteer members have produced four publications so far entitled Anglo Saxon & Scandinavian Mulgrave, A Hidden Heritage Walk Around Hinderwell Parish, A Village Walk Round Staithes and a 2012 Steam Railway Calendar.
