The GOTHS are riding back into town this week ahead of Whitby’s gothic celebrations.
Peter Keelan (49), from Gateshead, and his wife Margaret (47) were one of the first to arrive on a glorious Wednesday afternoon, with Mr Keelan taking the opportunity to enjoy a ride along Whitby beach on Coco the donkey.
For the first time ever the festivities will be spread over two weekends, with a variety of different events taking place to celebrate all things macabre.
Original goth-rock heroes The Damned will once again grace the Whitby Pavilion stage while in The Shambles the Killers Live Scare Attraction will assault the senses and thrust visitors into the minds of serial killers.
The festivities will continue through the week in the build up to Dark Daisy’s Whitby Alt Festival.
The second weekend will see a series of different events including music events and a masquerade ball.
From its humble beginnings at the Elsinore, where a group of gothic penfriends met for a drink, the event has grown to one of the largest alternative festivals in the world and this year’s is set to be the largest ever.
