Whitby’s new photographic Staponas Gallery will hold a unique electronic music, digital image and Sci-Fi fiction event to tie in with the Gothic Whitby Alt Festival this month.
The recently-opened gallery in Pier Road, run by photographer Arunas Staponas, has hooked up with ambient experimental electronica band Ammonites and writer Chris Firth to construct an evening of live experimental music, digitalised dub-text readings and a display of breathtaking animations and photography.
The rarely-seen Ammonites will play live music from their CD’s 33.3 and The Tenth Transmitter, which include random local sound-bite samples blended with beautifully crafted soundscapes and animations.
Writer Chris Firth will display digital audio samples from his latest controversial ‘stranded on a traffic island’ science fiction novel, The Strip and there will be an ongoing display of Arunas’ photography.
Taking place on Thursday 27 October at 8pm, this event is a random one-off evening in a relatively small space so places are strictly limited and ticket only.
Anyone interested in experimental arts in audio, visual and textual forms and wishing to request an invitational ticket can contact electraglade arts at email@example.com, on a first-come, first-served basis.
A limited number of tickets will also be available at the Staponas Gallery in Pier Road and at Folk Devils music shop in Sandgate.
Folk Devils is exclusively selling direct copies of The Strip and the Ammonite’s CDs in Whitby.
Refreshments will be available throughout the evening and are included in the ticket price of £5.
If you’re fancying a small taster of the event, samples from the unearthly music of Ammonites can be heard at Soundcloud.com or www.myspace.com/ammonitesound; text presentations of ‘The Strip’ with traffic video and Ammonite music can be viewed on youtube (just search for ‘the strip – ammonites’) and Arunas’ work can be viewed electronically at www.straponasgallery.co.uk.
