Hundreds braved icy temperatures and tides to take the traditional plunge into the sea this Boxing Day.

High tide didn’t deter dippers in Whitby taking part in the annual event staged by the Whitby Lions, helping to raise money for local good causes.

It was a shorter run than usual to the sea as it was launched off the slipway while crowds, wearing much warmer attire, lined the Battery Parade and the West Pier to watch.

Local causes include the RNLI and Whitby’s Air Cadets as well as a fund to help raise money for tot, Sarah Jackson who needs corrective surgery equipment costing £2000.
