A TORNADO arrived on the North York Moors Railway this week, and brought with it thousands of extra tourists to the area.
The arrival of the engine, sporting its new BR Brunswick Green coat, coincided with the railway’s 175th anniversary celebrations and its whistlestop visit concludes on Monday.
The 60163 Tornado is Britain’s newest steam engine and is the only one of its kind in the world, built at a cost of £3 million.
It has been running services since it arrived last week, later than expected due to disruptions on the mainline rail network.
Services pulled by the Peppercorn class A1 engine will continue this weekend and it will be hauling the Friday night Pullman dining train this evening, departing Grosmont at 7.30pm.
Diner seats are available to book by calling 01751 472508 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ordinary seats are also available with a full bar service offered and a plated hot roast beef supper priced at £7.50 per person.
