SOME people spend Boxing Day by the fire with the family – others spend it running into the North Sea.
It may have been going for 40 years but this year’s Boxing Day dip proved as popular as ever with over 150 people taking part and up to 1,000 spectators lining the West Pier, Battery Parade and West Cliff to watch the traditional Christmas caper.
Some donned Santa outfits, others wore an array of fancy dress outfits and others braved it in their bathing costumes.
But it was all in the name of charity with dippers being sponsored to take the plunge.
Any money raised will be donated to the dipper’s charity of choice and the local causes supported by the organisers, Whitby Lions.
