FINE works of art depicting scenes in and around Whitby will be up for auction in Scarborough on Monday.
The pictures by renowned artists, including members of the Staithes Group, are in with hundred of others to be sold by David Duggleby Ltd.

The standout Whitby piece is a work by William Gilbert Foster called Harvest Fields Above Sandsend.

The oil on canvas work is expected to fetch anywhere between £4,000 and £5,000.

The painter was not a member of the Staithes Group mainly because he was older than most of the artists and from a different generation of painter but he was still painting at the same time as the legendary group.

Although he lived in Leeds, he bought a house in Runswick Bay in 1890 and set about capturing his new environment.

It was from this time that he captured the image of the harvest in Sandsend.

Other works on sale include those by Edward C Booth and Frank Henry Mason.

The auction will take place at The Vine Street Salerooms in Scarborough at 11am on Monday.

Viewings will take place on Saturday at the Salerooms from 11am.
