GET back to basics this summer with a day living wild in the North York Moors.
Every Wednesday this month, people can get back in touch with traditional living by learning to light a fire without a match, use it to make a hot drink and then drink it in a shelter they made themselves.
The day's activity, which costs £15 and ta
kes place at The Moors National Park Centre in Danby, is just one of a number of fun things to do in the national park over the next few weeks.
Continuing the survival theme, on Friday 29 August there's a Hide Away in the Woods day where kids can learn how to camouflage themselves and build their own waterproof shelter which will be tested to see how waterproof it is.
Open to nine to 16-year-olds, the day costs £12.50 and takes place at The Moors National Park Centre.
For a different perspective of the North York Moors, people can hop in a canoe and paddle from Ruswarp to Whitby along the River Esk.
Guided by expert instructors, these water-based adventures take place on Thursdays this month and cost £27.50.
Find out why our coastline is known as the Dinosaur Coast on a day of free activities and displays all about fossils and the fascinating creatures which made them. The Dinosaur Coast Activity Day takes place today at The Moors National Park Centre.
There's also a chance for children to get creative on a number of craft days:
* create a critter on Friday at The Moors National Park Centre (£3);
* collect leaves and use them to make a unique t-shirt on Tuesday 19 at The Moors National Park Centre and Thursday 28 August at Sutton Bank National Park Centre (£5)
* or make a wooden bug box to attract beneficial insects such as lacewings to the garden on Tuesday 26 at The Moors National Park Centre (£6).
Many of the events are booking up fast so people are advised to reserve a place by calling (01439) 772738.
