MUSIC in the Basement returns to Glaisdale a week on Saturday with a fantastic line up of local and regional bands.
The acoustic music night at the Robinson Institute aims to bring different genres of music together in a great family night.

Audience members will get the chance to see new acts performing alongside professional and semi-professional acts.

People are urged to book tickets in advance to avoid disappointment on the night.

Acts confirmed for the night are rootsy five-piece Circus Envy based in East Yorkshire.

The band have moved away from the indie rock music played in their hometown in favour of a sound equally influenced by classic rock, folk rock and Americana.

Launderette Poets is the musical collaboration of Marissa Claughan and Patrick Gradwell who began writing songs in 2003 when they met whilst studying music at university.

After receiving positive feedback from listeners they soon realised their music had a future outside of the classroom and continued their partnership beyond graduation.

Musically and lyrically Launderette Poets bring depth and sincerity to their songwriting, drawing on their different musical histories to create the pretty, melodic sound that has become their forte.

Lead vocals and cello are Marissa’s responsibility, while the guitars are played by Patrick.

Bass and keyboard parts are played by Craig Steer.

Songstress Elaine Palmer will also be amazing the crowds with her extraordinary voice which has a certain charm and character.

Her music is influenced by living by the sea, ocean and harbours on the North East coast of England and she has toured extensively recording many albums of her own material.

The event is being organised by Sally Ann Smith and Mark Atkinson who currently work under the name of Fragile.

They will be joined on the evening by Kevin Meling on bass although keyboard player Phil Moore will not be present.

Also appearing will be 15-year-olds James Auger and Adam Moss who both live in Whitby and The Committee who are all pupils at Whitby Community College.

Music in the Basement starts at 7pm on 11 October and tickets are priced £5 adults, £3 under 12s.

To book call (01287) 660279 or (01947) 606623.

Food is included in the ticket price and a bar will be available.
