A RARE chance to see a local public performance by professional storyteller Adrian Beckingham, aka The Man from Story Mountain, arises on Friday at Eskdale School in Whitby.
People will get the chance to sit in a painted tepee and hear Adrian's Native American Stories with the first beginning at 10am and a series of stories being told throughout the morning and afternoon, finishing at 3pm.
Adrian has been running workshops and performing as a professional storyteller for 12 years and his storytelling career has taken him to Egypt, Australia, Bali, Hong Kong and Germany.
His clients have included the world's largest book festival Frankfurt Book Fair, the Duke of Edinburgh Award, the National Trust, English Heritage, the Commonwealth Institute, the Empire Museum, the Home Office plus many festivals across the UK and more than 400 visits into schools.
In the year 2000, Adrian was awarded the Help The Aged Millennium Award for his Bridge Of Stories project, which brought together young people and elderly residents through story-telling.
His book Stories That Crafted The Earth is a selection of stories about how the world, the rivers, the forests, stars, animals and people were first created, as told by Native Americans, Aboriginal Australians, Amazonian Indians, and other tribal groups.
Published by Gothic Image in 2005, the book now sells in Waterstones, WH Smith and many other book shops both nationally and abroad.
