A BID to have monthly town assemblies every month was defeated at a town assembly meeting tonight (Tuesday).

The assembly had been called after a request was received by the mayor containing a list of signatures asking for the assembly and calling for the vote.

But no one involved in gathering the signatures is thought to have attended the meeting.

More details to follow.

So the man who at the last town forum wanted Whitby tax payers to fund the swing bridge out of their own pockets cannot even be bothered to turn up to another Town forum called on his behalf – and none of his entourage either, not even Mr Budd?

Well there you have it people of Whitby. These are the individuals, who will spend your money, interrupt proceedings and castigate WTC and SBC in your name. O’h and would like to control the cargo shed with their highfaluting ideas, led by the film maker who doesn’t even know that films shown in public actually require a licence and category, the list is endless.

WTC may need to sharpen up its act and SBC may not be our preferred masters, but they are streets ahead of this motley crew.

Now, now Nathan, I'm sure they had a good excuse.

It was probably raining or maybe there was a Bond film on telly.

Im not impressed.

Sorry to miss the Assembly, called for Wednesday, and held on Tuesday.

didn't even know there was another town assembly...also it must be noted that the 'motley crew' are not suggesting that THEY become councillors, they are merely putting the idea forward that we should perhaps elect younger councillors, have more debate, involve the community more in the decision making etc. p.s. i'm not one of the 'Motley Crew' i'm just putting another point of view forward from what i've read in the papers and heard on the streets.

But becoming councillors is exactly what they SHOULD be doing, Bob. It's very easy to sneer from the sidelines and moan about co-opted councillors, but if the objectors feel they can do better they should stand under the normal democratic process and change the system from within.

See No 4 - EXCUSES, EXCUSES. Pete Budd in Glastonberry HE IS Sorry he missed the assembly, because he thought it was Wednesday. You know what thought did, he thought he was a motor bike.......... There he is on Wednesday in Glastonberry, three hundred and ten miles away at 2pm . Could he really have got back to Whitby for 7pm. I think not, he never had any intention of going to the Town Forum.

WHAT A PLONKER.

Admit it Mr Budd, your priority is NOT Whitby. Thank goodness you do not live here.

And where was Mr Ward, we know that he was not sick so what was his excuse.

That's a bit unfair, Jo. You can't put your life on hold for the sake of a town meeting. Even town councillors take holidays.

Fair enough Sebastian except that I believe that the meeting was called on behalf of Mr Budd and Mr Ward and therefore he could have requested a date when he would be available. That is why I called him a plonker.
