A THREE-year-old girl had to be rescued by police after becoming trapped in a Whitby toilet last week.
The youngster has gone into to use the facilities on the West Cliff on Friday afternoon and had been unable to open the lock to get back out.
Police were called to the scene and managed to free the youngster, who is from the Whitby area, after a short period.
Sgt Steve Pearse of Whitby Police, said: "The girl had gone in to the toilet and closed the door and managed to lock it but she was not physically

strong enough to open it again.
"Her mother had been waiting on the other side of the door so she was safe but obviously being a young girl she became quite distressed.
"We were called to the scene at about 4.15pm and used a crowbar to open the door.
"The little girl was fine and very happy to be back with her mother again."
A fire engine was also sent to the scene but the girl had been freed when they arrived.
