Whitby Town plagued by injuries for Ferriby clash

WHITBY Town host old Wembley rivals North Ferriby United on Wednesday night (10 Mar), with nine points separating fifth-placed Ferriby from Town, who hold a game in hand.

Since Whitby's 3-0 victory over the East Yorkshire side in the 1997 FA Vase, the clubs have met on 10 occasions, with five Town wins, four Ferriby victories and one draw.

United's biggest threat is 23-goal hotshot Gary Bradshaw. The prolific marksman began his career in Newcastle United's youth set-up before spells with nearby Hull City and, more recently, Cheltenham Town.

However, despite sitting in the play-off places, Ferriby have picked up just one win in their last eight matches, though ominously, that was league leaders Bradford Park Avenue's only away defeat this season.

Whitby have a formidable list of injuries with manager Harry Dunn admitting the club are "in the market for a striker".

Former Middlesbrough marksman Andy Campbell is likely to be ruled out with a calf problem, while skipper Tony Hackworth and defender Christian Hanson face late fitness tests on their groin strains.

Former Carlisle playmaker Ged Dalton will also need to be assessed after suffering a hamstring pull during Saturday's 4-0 win over Burscough.

However, vice-captain Ashley Lyth (thigh) and midfielder Leon Scott (ankle) should both be fit and available to play.

Town are also chasing their first double of the season after goals from Karl Charlton and Ryan Blott secured a 2-0 win in the clubs' first meeting, at Ferriby's Church Road home, last September.

Kick-off at the Turnbull Ground is 7.45pm with admission 7.50 adults, 4.50 concessions and 2 under 18s.

The Blues complete a hat-trick of successive home games on Saturday when another top-half side, Ashton United, are the visitors.
