Whitby schools in Drax Cup

A TOTAL of 18 primary schools from Whitby are set to compete in the Drax Cup 2011, the biggest cricket competition for under nines in the country.

Hundreds of children from the area will compete in matches which begin after Easter and last until July with the finals played at Headingley Carnegie Stadium in Leeds.

Now in its fifth year, there are more than 1,500 schools registered to take part in the Drax Cup 2011.

The competition is sponsored by Drax Power Limited and organised by The Yorkshire County Cricket Club in conjunction with the Yorkshire Cricket Board and Yorkshire School’s Cricket Association.

Andrew Gale, Yorkshire club captain, is ambassador for the Drax Cup 2011 together with Katherine Brunt, Yorkshire and England player.

The finals will be played at Headingley on Sunday 3 July prior to Yorkshire v Nottinghamshire in the Friends Provident Twenty20 Cup.
