Whitby CC 3rd XI got back to winning ways this Sunday away to Saltburn with a fine all-round performance.
Whitby won the toss and elected to bat. After losing a couple of early wickets, Whitby dug in and developed some strong partnerships through the middle order.
There were notable performances from Tom Shrimpton on his debut, scoring 65, along with Rikki Lawrence scoring 50.
They were backed up well by Duncan Russell 36 not out and 30 for Jack Lyth, giving Whitby a final total of 234/7.
Whitby began brightly with two quick wickets but Saltburn’s middle order proved to be a resisting force, riding their luck at times and it looked for a long time that Saltburn would hold out for a draw until an inspired second spell from Taylor Humble tore through the tail, earning himself a five-wicket haul and reducing Saltburn to 167 all out.
A great display all round from Whitby showing great character and belief, onto this coming weekend, at home to Billingham 3rd XI.
