Twenty schools from the Whitby area are to take part in this year’s Drax Cup cricket competition for under 9s.

The annual event is on course to be the biggest in its history with more than 300 schools already registered.

Many more are expected to sign up before the entry deadline next week.

Organisers are anticipating the competition could attract 500 schools across Yorkshire.

A Drax Cup spokesperson said: “We always experience a last minute flood of entries.

“We hope any Whitby schools or partnerships still considering the competition will join us for some brilliant cricket and the chance to play in the finals at Headingley.”

Individual schools and school sports partnerships can register at www.thedraxcup.co.uk.
