Track stages Northern Drifting Championships

A LOCAL autodrome has been picked to stage the Northern Drifting Championships on Sunday 25 March.

Drifting - a motorsport where cars are driven sideways at high speed - is on at Teesside Autodrome, based at the South Tees Motorsport Park off South Bank Road in Middlesbrough.

The aim is to drive with as much speed and angle as possible while driving the line as instructed by the event judges.

Circuit boss Bob Pope said: “You can understand this with it being so fast and flowing with the additional plus of requiring technical flair.

“It has something for every style of driving and the high grass banking allows you to see the whole track from any spot.”

The event runs from 9am to 5pm. Spectator admission will be £10 with accompanied children under 16 free.

The venue has car parking, hot and cold refreshments and a licensed bar.
