Tough start for Whitby Cricket Club firsts

WHITBY Cricket Clubs 2011 season gets under way this coming weekend with the newly-promoted first team facing a difficult first game in North Yorkshire and South Durham League division one away to Redcar 1sts, while the seconds entertain Thornaby 2nds in division three at the Turnbull with a 1pm start.

Paul Harrison again leads the first team with Paul Buck as his deputy but, in a reversal of roles, the seconds will be skippered by Ricky Hall with Duncan Russell now vice-captain.

Following promotion to Division B of the Derwent Valley League, Duncan Lawrence’s third team start the following Saturday with a home fixture against Seamer 3rds.

They will again play at Fyling Hall School, as will the Wednesday night Esk Valley Evening League team.

The junior section continues to go from strength to strength with the introduction of an Under 17 Team in the NYSD Junior League.

They will play on Monday nights at 6.15pm starting Monday 9 May at home to Guisborough.

Following their successful debut season, the under 15s team begin their new campaign on Sunday 1 May, as do the under 14s, playing at Marton and Mulgrave respectively.

Junior practice nights are held on a Friday at 6pm starting tonight (Good Friday, 22 April), all old and new players will be made most welcome.
