Steve and Fran win pairs competition
SLEIGHTS Bowling Club played their annual pairs competition, the Gordon Fletcher Trophy.
Partners were drawn at random and it was played as a knockout over 11 ends with four woods each.
After lunch at the club pavilion, the 22 teams played three rounds on the Saturday, leaving the final two rounds for Sunday.
The semi-finalists were Peter Claypole and Mary Swalwell against John Pybus and Joyce Blythman, while Mick Dean and Jean Moore were against Steve Harrison and Fran Bogg.
Peter and Mary went through to the final after a close match, meeting Steve and Fran in the final.
Worthy of special mention is Fran Bogg who only started playing this year, yet kept her concentration and coolness throughout the competition, while playing top class shots.
The final was one of the best matches seen at the club by the many spectators.
Every end was closely fought and it went to the last woods of the last end before Steve Harrison and Fran Bogg emerged as the winners.
