Stakesby top gymnastics event from Fylingdales

TEAMS from Fylingdales, Stakesby, Airy Hill, Egton, East Whitby and Ruswarp took part in the year five and six gymnastics festival at Eskdale School.

Pupils from Sleights and Danby were also due to compete but had to withdraw because of the wintry weather conditions.

Teams battled it out competing in body management, floor and vault categories.

Students from Eskdale were once again on hand to make sure the event ran smoothly by coaching and judging the teams in each discipline.

The results were incredibly close, with only a very small margin separating the first four teams. Stakesby's team eventually came out on top, closely followed by Fylingdales team 1, East Whitby and then Airy Hill.

An air of friendly competition surrounded the event and all teams put in a fantastic effort.

Caroline Watson from the Whitby and Ryedale School Sports Partnership, said: "The event has been a great success, the overall standard of gymnastics is getting higher every year, it's fantastic to see. Thanks to all the schools for taking part in the event and making it a great afternoon."
