STAITHES Cricket Club juniors took on very young local rivals Hinderwell in a match played in a tremendous spirit.
Staithes got off to flyer with openers B Lewis and B Welford putting on 70 for the first wicket, with Lewis scoring his third 50 of the season off only nine overs.
Welford showed the great progress he had made this season, batting until the 20th over for an intelligent opening knock.
Hinderwell bowled much better than the score suggests with newcomer J Allinson taking 2-22.
Hinderwell’s young batsmen showed promise for the future with J Cole top-scoring with 21, but with Staithes’ own young guns R Hambley, C Horne and J Regan sharing five wickets, showing their future promise,
Staithes 131/3: B Lewis 51 not out, B Welford 50 not out, A Jacobs 10.
Hinderwell 58 all out: J Cole 21, R Hambley 2-8, C Horne 2-6, J Regan 1-8, L Fergus 1-11.
