Staithes crowned league champions

STAITHES were crowned champions of the Beckett Cricket League on Saturday by a single point after beating Flamborough by 116 runs.

Richard Hegarty followed up last week's huge century to hit 89 not out, while Chris Barritt scored 59 as Staithes amassed 221/6.

Bowler Simon Bowes took 4-14 as the seaside club got their opponents out for just 105.

The win gave Staithes 20 points – the same total gained by title rivals Staxton who beat Ebberston on a day of high drama.
