Skipper Andrew Wood also weighed in with a useful knock of 20 as Whitby ended their innings on 182/8 from their 50 overs.

In reply, Northallerton 2nds lost opener Richard Harland early on for just six but fellow opener Martin Dennis proved a thorn in Whitby’s side, eventually being bowled on by Wheldon for 76.

Apart from that, the visitors found runs difficult to come by and their total fell 24 runs short of Whitby’s.

Wheldon and Steve Crowther took three wickets apiece while teenager Taylor Humble also impressed, hoovering up a brace.
