School cricket teams reach Drax Cup final
Stakesby School and Ruswarp School have both reached the North Yorkshire county final of the Drax Cup 2010, due to take place at York Cricket Club on Monday 21 June.
The schools won a mini-tournament involving six local primary schools which took place last Tuesday at Malton and Norton Cricket Club.
Stakesby previously finished third in the 2008 Drax Cup Competition.
Now in its fourth year, the Drax Cup is the biggest cricket competition for the under nines age group in the country.
This year, 350 schools and 3,500 boys and girls across Yorkshire are taking part.
The competition is sponsored by Drax Power Limited as part of its Cricket In The Community scheme, which provides cricket coaching to schools and organised by Yorkshire County Cricket Club in conjunction with Yorkshire Cricket Board and Yorkshire Schools' Cricket Association.
The Drax Cup supports literacy programmes of the Department for Education by encouraging team members to write match reports to be read out in school.
This year, tickets for Yorkshire's Twenty20 matches will be awarded as prizes for the best match reports.
Andrew Gale, Yorkshire Club Captain, is ambassador for the Drax Cup 2010 together with TV presenter Harry Gration.
The winners from each of the four counties of Yorkshire will play the finals of the Drax Cup 2010 at Headingley Carnegie Stadium on Sunday 4 July prior to Yorkshire v Warwickshire in the Friends Provident Twenty20 Cup.
