YEAR seven students from Fyling Hall, Caedmon and Eskdale attended a small rugby festival at Caedmon School.

The aim of the afternoon was to introduce the young players to basic rugby skills and competition.

The afternoon began with five Whitby Community College students - Tom Wood, Rich Eglon, Luke Brown, Joe Russell and Miles Locker - introducing the youngsters to handling, kicking and contact skills.

The players then played small-sided games against each other.

Pete Stentiford from Whitby Rugby Club attended to do some talent spotting and invite the boys to Sunday morning sessions.

Shaun Hopper from Caedmon School said: “It was a cracking evening of rugby.

“The youngsters were ably led by the lads from Whitby Community College.

“The small tournament at the end gave the year sevens a chance to show off the key skills they had learnt earlier in the session and they managed to play some great rugby.”
