Toughest test of season for injury-hit Maroons
WHITBY Maroons face their toughest test of the season so far on Saturday (17 Nov) when they take on fellow promotion hopefuls Seghill.
The visitors are a good all-round side with a particularly strong pack.
They have a record of five wins and three defeats but their losses have only come against the top sides.
Maroons have a long growing injury list which includes Dusty Hare (ankle ligaments), Andy Watson (broken thumb), Guy Taylor (hamstring) and Connor Clements (ankle fracture).
They will also be without the outstanding Gordon Bland for almost all of the season as he has moved away to a new job.
Matt Russell and Shane Young come back into contention in the front row, while in the backs the two veteran Richardsons, Tim and Ed, come back into the selection equation.
Coach Darryl Grason said: “Our next two games against Seghill and South Tyneside will define our season.
“We are improving as a side and have a strong work ethic but ultimately the team will be judged by results on the field.
“We need to improve our organisation and on-field decision making if we want to take the step up to the next level.”
A large crowd is expected at the Showfield for this crunch game.
The England game will be taped and shown in the club straight after the Maroons’ match for those wanting to see both.
Whitby Maroons v Seghill kicks off at 2 15pm.
