Give rugby a try!

Whitby Rugby Club's under 10s at Sunday's training session

Whitby Rugby Club's under 10s at Sunday's training session

RUGBY in Whitby is undergoing a major transformation, with more young children being urged to give the sport a try.

Helped by the schools, especially sports co-ordinator Peter Woolley, Whitby has set up rugby sessions from ages under seven to 12s from 10.30am to 11.30am.

After weekend after weekend of bad weather, last Sunday saw 30 children practising on the Showfield, while the under 15s played Wetherby and the under 16s took on Guisborough.

The club is also starting a girls’ under 15 team with the first training session due last night at Whitby Community College.

When the weather gets better, there is going to be a mini Quins where five and six-year-olds can play.

This will start in April.
