THERE was a new trophy to be won within this year’s Whitby rowing calendar.
The winners of the men’s senior event held at the Page Races were presented with the Brian Gatenby Memorial Trophy.
The new silverware was presented to representatives of the Friendship Amateur Rowing Club at a function held at the club’s headquarters.
Family, friends. rowers and work colleagues from Cleveland Potash at Boulby all gathered at the club house for a social evening in memory of Brian.
The trophy was presented to the club’s president Mike Brown from Keith Wood of Cleveland Potash.
Mr Wood said Brian’s workmates had come up with the idea and also thought that it would be a fitting tribute for a dear friend.
The workforce had rallied round to buy the trophy which has the words ‘Always Remembered By His Friends’ engraved on it.
Mr Brown added that Brian who had been a successful rower who had helped and contributed in many ways in the club’s activities and would be sadly missed.
After the handover, the Boulby workforce was given a tour of the club boathouse, where they were shown some boats and equipment.
