Whitby keep cool against Ice Men

WHITBY’S Jonathan Parkinson was their best player on the night by winning two of his three singles games.

Man of the match though was Desperatum’s Tony Brown, who won all three of his singles.

Ken Benford and Mick Leonard both contributed one singles win each for Whitby which then left Desperatum 5-4 up with just the doubles game to play.

Benford and Parkinson played for Whitby against Brown and Nigel Hird which looked on paper to be an easy win for Desperatum but the Whitby duo played extremely well to take the doubles 15-13, 11-8 and 11-4, thus securing a valuable draw in the overall match.

The league table prior to the game showed The Ice Men as leaders of the division with Whitby in second place albeit six points behind.

Naturally, this proved to be a very close and hard-fought match with neither team creating a significant lead.

Whitby’s star performer and man of the match was once again Graham Cripps who secured three wins in his singles games.

Jonathan Parkinson contributed one singles win and Ken Benford should have done so but once again managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

This then left the match poised at 5-4 in favour of The Ice Men with just the doubles to play.

Cripps and Benford played for Whitby against Derek Harris and James Button. Benford at last got his game going well and with excellent support from Cripps the Whitby pair took the doubles three ends to one and took the match result to secure Whitby’s third draw in a row.
