Fans asked to steer future of Dalby cycling

LOCAL bikers are being urged to gear up by the Forestry Commission and help improve Dalby Forest’s already world class mountain biking network.
Forest chiefs have teamed up with Singletraction – a Yorkshire-based independent voluntary biking organisation – to re-establish a trail building group in the spectacular 3,440 hectare (8,600 acre) beauty spot.
To recruit new members an open meeting is being organised in Dalby on Sunday 19 February where people can find out more how to get involved in shaping the future of the acclaimed 55km (36 mile) off-road network.
Stuart Startup, Forestry Commission Bike Ranger, said: “Over the years bikers have played a massive part in creating mountain routes in Dalby, building trail sections, advising on design and helping run events.
“We want to re-invigorate the grassroots by getting more people to sign up with Singletraction to claim a stake in Dalby’s development.”
Dalby attracts over 100,000 bikers annually and for the past two years it has been venue for the UCI World Cup Cross Country Mountain Bike Championship.
Historically, local mountain bike enthusiasts worked with the Forestry Commission to pioneer a colour coding system in Dalby used to denote the difficultly of routes, from black to blue, since rolled out throughout the UK.
Tim Sellors, Singletraction Chairman, said: “We have 120 members dotted across Yorkshire making a major contribution to the development of mountain biking.
“Dalby needs a strong local group to help refine and build on what is already a fantastic network of single trails.
“This is a great opportunity to get involved.”
Trail-building days will be held on the third Sunday of every month and for those attending more than four a free Discovery Pass will be issued by the Forestry Commission, allowing free all-year round access to Dalby Forest.
Free entry to Dalby will be granted to people attending the open meeting, which runs from 10am to 1pm in the Courtyard area at Low Dalby.
