Mulgrave post huge total in title chase

Mulgrave look certainties for promotion into the Beckett League after they wrapped up convincing Derwent Valley League on Saturday, wins with their batsmen shining.

Division A leaders Mulgrave hammered rock-bottom Brompton 2nds by a massive 286 runs. Andrew Thompson smashed an unbeaten 104 as Mulgrave posted a huge 356/7.

Joe Hinchcliffe added 73, James Newton hit 51 and Chris Raine amassed 44.

Brompton were all out for just 70 in reply as Carl Woodward claimed 7-16.

Great Habton remain second after Robin Richardson’s 103 helped them past Whitby 3rds.

Habton were all out for 187 as Richardson dominated, before Will Curtis (4-31) and George Lumley (3-21) took over, helping see off the Whitby reply on 155.

Oriel suffered a surprise defeat against Fylingdales 2nds. Fylingdales were all out for 144, Paul Greenhough claiming 5-33.

But Oriel’s batsmen couldn’t capitalise as they were all out for just 121.

There was an exciting finish at Scalby, where their third team secured a last-over win against Ravenscar 2nds. Scalby veteran Phil Perry hit the single required with nine wickets down as Scalby crept to 158-9 after 4-27 from Abhishek Kumar had helped them restrict Ravenscar to 157.
