WITH a quarter of the winter season over, the A League title is developing into a straight fight between Whitehall and Country Lads.
Unfortunately for Esk Valley they will be without Robin Dawson who is suffering from back problems which effectively rules them out of a three way contest.
In the latest round of fixtures, Esk Valley, despite a 99 from Nigel Scarth and 98 from Jackie Hay could not match Country Lads 387 for whom Derek Atkinson scored 99 and Sam Atkinson 97.
Elsewhere, Wrong Trousers were no match for Whitehall who had Steve Baker in almost top form. Other than Steve’s 99 Whitehall’s scores tended to be solid rather than spectacular.
In the third match, Castle Park went down to Average losing by seven points. Colin Moore with 96 was the best for Castle Park closely followed by Max Dossor with 95.
In Division B, the surprise of the week was a resounding defeat for Patch for whom only the consistent Jean Wood with 95 showed anything like some reasonable form. Paul Cattermole with 97 was the best for Firemen although Ian Clarkson with 93 had his best score of the season.
Best score of the week was a very good 98 from the rapidly improving Matt Marsay who, along with 95 from Jeff Kenworthy, ensured a comfortable win for league leaders Watkinson’s over Universal.
Farmers and Colin Thompson equalled their best scores of the season but were unlucky to come up against Average on a week when they benefitted from a general all-round improvement.
In the Gunscore League, only four points separate the top and bottom teams. In the Handicap League, the competition is even closer with only one point between the top five teams.
