Vice-captain Byron Blessed won the Midweek Stableford at Whitby Golf Club with 43 points. Tam McConville was second with 41, with Richard Young, Ian Cowie and Dan Craig on 40, Mike Coates on 38 and Greg Cowie on 37.
On Saturday, the captain John Wightman and ladies’ captain Janet Wightman organised a social Florida Scramble. The team of Gordon Mackenzie, Marjorie Mackenzie, Tam McConville and Jean Owens came first with 51.25, with the team of Karen Fellows, Mike Fellows, Bob Scott and Janet McGeehin second with 52.5.
Prolific winner Simon Walker won his first silverware of 2014 with victory in the WG Robinson Cup, having both the best nett of 66 and the best gross of 72. John Hartley took second place from Chris Batchelor on 70, and John McMurran came fourth with a better back nine than Tam McConville after they had scored 71. Greg Cowie and vice-captain Byron Blessed won the Midweek Stableford with 43 points. Kate Bradley won the ladies May Par with 4 up against the course, just beating Sally Harker on 3 up. Karen Fellows won the Bogey Cup held the same day with 2 up, being the best score from all those who qualified during the previous year. Wendy Hurworth was 1 down, with Sue Bennison and Carol Ward on 2 down.
There is a Team Stableford tomorrow (Sat), with the best three cards from the team of four giving the team score. Sunday’s competition is the Des Burton Fourball Betterball Medal, there is a Pro’s Open Stableford on Bank Holiday Monday and a Midweek Stableford on Wednesday. Gentlemen please note that entries are being taken for Mens Invitation Day on Saturday July 26. Your guest has to be a member of another club with an official handicap.
Entries are also being taken for the five Open Days; the Seniors Open on June 6, the Rabbits Open on June 20, the Seniors Open on August 29, the Mens Four Man Team Stableford on September 6 and the Mixed Greensome on September 13. This week’s winner of £100 in the 200 Club draw is Kevin Ing.
Junior coaching is starting again on Thursday May 22 and will continue every Thursday until the end of summer.
It starts at 4.30pm and runs for an hour at a cost of £2. As with last year, it is taking place on the practice area at the clubhouse.

Tony’s Tip: Your visualisation of the short shots around the green must be flexible to reflect changing conditions, otherwise you will make some large mistakes.
As the greens become firmer and faster you will have to land the ball shorter to allow for the increased bounce and run. If ground conditions change with a period of heavy rain, alter your landing point again.
