The Whitby Rifle Club, Short Mat Bowls Section, held it annual Mixed Singles Competition for the Elmet Trophy on Sunday 20 November at the Rifle Club.
The games were played as a knockout over nine ends, with four woods each.
There were the usual hard fought matches in the preliminary and first rounds, with three of them going into the last end level.
All the quarter finals also had close finishes, as David Marshall beat Doug Hancock, Ian Harrison beat Rose Isherwood, John Pybus beat Roly Clark and Mick Wade beat Eddie White.
In the semi finals, David Marshall beat Ian Harrison after they went into the last end all square and John Pybus who was playing at his best, beat Mick Wade.
It was a worthy final between David Marshall and John Pybus, with each having excellent woods, only to have them knocked out or bettered.
David went into an early lead, but as expected, John tenaciously fought back to take the lead and the eventual win. This in fact was John Pybus`s 11th win in the 20 years this trophy has been played for.
