WHITBY Hockey Club ladies won the league in style with a 10-0 demolition of Mackinlay.

The ladies finished the campaign with 10 wins and a draw from their 12 games, with 72 goals scored and just 13 conceded.

Coach Karen Sanderson said: “This is once again an outstanding result which Whitby is very proud of.

“We have worked very hard on our passing skills and advanced moves this year which has really paid off.

“We like to keep up with the ever-changing game of hockey and must be doing something right judging by our results not only on the pitch but with district, county and regional representation.”

Whitby played their last game of the season with style and superb skills. The quality of play and passing left Mackinlay unable to penetrate the midfield and had to defend in numbers against the Whitby attack.

The pace was fast and furious with Whitby dominating from the whistle. It was a fantastic game to watch with Whitby showing their best passing skills, fitness and teamwork.

Goal scorers: Beth Grason 1, Nicola Kent 1, Lisette Vincent-Jones 1, Emily Webster 1, Beth Sanderson 2 and Dani Halley 4.

Beth Sanderson was awarded player of the match for her impressive stick skills.

The officials thank all the players who have represented the ladies’ team and for all their effort and support throughout the season.

A big thank you to the coaches, volunteers and officials who dedicate their time to the smooth and professional running of the club.

Karen added: “The club has now been running for 30 years, but success over the past 10 years has been evident, especially with the transition from grass hockey to Astroturf.

“Whitby is fortunate to play on such a great site at Whitby and Esk Valley Astro Turf facility at Caedmon School.”

Next season, Whitby will be welcoming new coach Lee Pettit who will be working alongside Karen Sanderson, Jo Braithwaite and Nicola Kent.

The club’s thriving junior section is in great need of a junior manager to get them more involved in match play.
