WHITBY Endeavour delivered well against Royal Mail, as they continued a winning start to their Scarborough League third division campaign.
Royal Mail’s best performer in this match was Stuart Robinson who won all three of his singles matches.
Whitby’s Graham Cripps fought back well from two sets down to level his singles match with Robinson at 2-2 but then Robinson finally clinched this long drawn out battle 12-10 in the final end to take the match to 3-2.
Whitby’s Jonathan Parkinson began well by taking the first two sets of his match with Robinson but then it all went horribly wrong and Robinson took the next three sets to win 3-2. Robinson then had a comfortable 3-0 win over Whitby’s Ken Benford.
Fortunately Whitby’s trio all managed comfortable 3-0 wins over the other two Royal Mail players, Adrian Atkinson and Steve King.
In the doubles, Robinson, ably supported by King, overcame Whitby’s Benford and Cripps to take the doubles 3-2.
Still, a good result for Whitby who have now won both matches so far this season..

IN a close fought match against Scalby B, Whitby’s star player was Graham Cripps who won all his three singles games.
Whitby’s team captain, Ken Benford, managed to scrape two singles wins despite not playing particularly well.
The closest game of the evening was between Whitby’s Dan Schweitzer and Scalby’s David Makepeace.
This was a see saw five-ender which could easily have gone either way but Makepeace edged it 11-9 in the final end.
With the match score at 5-4 in Whitby’s favour, everything hinged on the doubles game with Cripps and Benford playing Hutchinson and Goodliffe. Benford at last found some good form and Whitby took the doubles game comfortably.
This result means Whitby have now won all three matches played so far this season.
