Whitby darts ace Rich Parkin could soon be taking on the best players in the world if he decides to join the Professional Darts Corporation.
The 30-year-old is in sparkling form and feels like now is the time to be taking on the sport’s star names.
The big-money PDC features the world’s top players such as Michael van Gerwen, “The Power” Phil Taylor and Gary Anderson.
Rich is back in the Teesside top 10 after reaching the semi-finals of the Billingham Open, which he followed up by winning the Sean Coleman memorial event in the Plough.
He also has the backing of the BDO’s number one player and close friend, Glenn Durrant, semi-finalist at the world darts championship at Lakeside earlier this year.
“Glenn has always been a big supporter of mine, saying I’ ve got the talent but just not the confidence,” said Rich. “It’s given me a bit of a lift seeing that if he can do it, I can.”
To join the PDC circuit, Rich would have to pay £500 to enter and gain enough ranking points to get his tour card.
This would also enable him to attract more sponsors.
“It would be the icing on the cake,” said Rich.
“You would be forever known as a PDC player and competing with the best. The bigger the name, the better you play.”
The other option for Rich, of Chancel Way in Whitby, would be to join the BDO which has tournaments as far away as Denmark.
Rich’s next competitive event will be the South Bank Open on July 5 which he is aiming to win. He added: “I’ve got a lot of new-found confidence and everything is working.”
